In
July 1997, I bought a new R1100RT. Shortly after, I participated
in a "Thousand in One" competition staged at the Cascade
BMW (may they Rest
in Peace) in Kirkland, Washington. During that run, and during the hours
of darkness, I found myself wishing for "more light".
To
keep a long story, short, I found that there was really nothing
available for the RT that didn't involve a lot of complicated
installation effort, or the design was just not esthetically
pleasing. So, with the encouragement of Doug at Cycle-Logical BMW
in Eugene, Oregon and the approval of my wife and assistance of
her father, I proceeded to really look at my RT and try to figure
out how to do something that was both, simple and easy to install,
and looked good as well.
After
several cardboard, aluminum, and steel templates, I settled on a
bracket design that uses 16 gauge, heat-treated alloy steel, that
had to be cut with an abrasive water-jet type cutting machine.
After that came the bending, welding and black powder coating (to
match as close as possible, the texture of the dash panel and bag
lids.) WARNING:
Because of the changes in design of the mounting systems of the KC
driving lights, I can no longer recommend these lights for
installation on these brackets. Hella and PIAA are suggested.
A set of installation instructions
do come with the
brackets, and I will be glad to help you with any other
suggestions/questions.
Install
time for those with tools for fingers is about an hour. The less
efficient of us, of course, will be longer. And then you haven't
even begun to figure out how you're going to do the lights yet!
Took me a couple of days to figure that part out! Cost for the
brackets is $77.99 (UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE) which includes shipping.
For orders going outside CONUS, the total would be $92.99 (again,
that includes shipping). I will accept a check, a
cashiers check or money order ($US). And the day it gets
deposited, the brackets will be mailed.
For
gold coin or bullion in excess of 2 kilos I will fly out, deliver
them by hand, install them myself and then leave you the tools
that I used. If you'd make the check out to me
"Pat Patterson" I'd appreciate it. Thank you for
your time and do hope to hear from you soon.

PS
- The gap between the body and the mirror is increased by a hair
over 1/16th of an inch. Really negligible.
